POLITICS-US-USA-SOTOMAYOR

Today, at 12:30 pm on Thursday, August 6, the United States Senate voted 68-31 to confirm President Obama’s nomination of Sonia Sotomayor as an Associate Justice of the Supreme Court of the United States.   Sotomayor is the first Latina justice, and just the third woman to serve.

Congratulations to the Obama Administration and to all citizens of the United States! Women represent at least half of the population in the USA. History suggests that we cannot expect women’s legal perspectives to be represented in the courts unless there are women in position of power when cases are being reviewed and rulings are decided. For our daughters, mothers, sisters living now and those of the future, may Justice Sotomayor be one of many more women who will be members of the Supreme Court during the 21st century. RPW
